Quiet, music-loving Tommo and noisy, football-mad Smelly are both star players - he with the school band and she with the footy team. Their unlikely friendship is tested to the limit when band and team go to the city for the state-wide competitions. The band struggles to produce a performance up to the standards of Drac, their emotional bandmaster, while Thumper, the footy coach, psychs his team to fever pitch. Tensions run high, and after a disastrous mix-up with the buses, the band turns up at the footy oval, while the footy team finds itself tackling a bunch of musical instruments.
